North / South Regatta Information North/South is the Fall championship regatta for the west coast. North/South determining which regattas can be attended in the Spring by the west coast schools. UCSB Hosts this major intersectional with help from the team, alumni, SBYC, and many volunteers.
North-South Pacific Coast Champs PCIYRA - UCSB November 13-14, 2004 REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS: New regatta site at Lake Isabella, CA. Sunny but no wind early on Saturday. Delayed until about 2pm when the thermal (Southerly) filled (6-12 knots) and then raced until dark (5pm). Sunday there was a light breeze (3-8 knot Northerly) in the morning and we started racing promptly at 10am. Breeze began dying about 12pm during race A & D 8. The D division race was completed but the A race was abandoned. With no breeze but beautiful sunny skys and temps in the high 70's we waited. At about 3pm with a deadline of no start after 4pm and needing to get race 8 in for A,B & C for race 8 in D to count, the committee called the regatta. At about 3:05pm the thermal filled at about 8-10 knots but many of the teams had already de-rigged and no more racing was held. Check out the set by set scores to see how close the top 4 teams were throughout the regatta. The 5th place team (Georgetown) was also very tight but suffered from 2 DSQ's on Saturday and the 6th place team (Univ. of Washington) dominated the Laser Divisions. Many thanks to the 7th place team (UC Santa Barbara) for hosting this logistically difficult event. There really is nothing quite like 200 plus college sailors spending ALL weekend together.
